From the Department Head

The Department of Communication Sciences, established for the first time in Turkey within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Doğuş University, is a pioneering department that brings the faculty’s interdisciplinary approach into the field of media and communication.

Technological and structural transformations in media and communication industry have blurred the boundaries between different areas of expertise. Therefore, rather than narrowing students’ focus to a single specialization, our department aims to provide them with a broad perspective and comprehension of communication in all its dimensions.

Our four-year undergraduate program is structured in line with this goal. In the first two years, students gain a strong foundation of social sciences and build their theoretical basis through introductory courses in various branches of communication. In the final two years, they deepen their interests through elective courses that integrate research and practice across fields such as digital media, cinema, journalism, advertising, and public relations.

The Department of Communication Sciences offers an interdisciplinary and intercultural learning environment. Our students can expand their knowledge by pursuing Double Major or Minor programs in other departments of the university, or gain global academic experience through Erasmus exchange programs.

Grounded in a philosophy that centers on critical thinking, our educational approach aims to cultivate individuals who do not merely consume knowledge but also produce it. Accordingly, the department strives to educate communication professionals equipped with the skills of the 21st century such as digital literacy, creativity, ethical responsibility, and analytical thinking, who can contribute to the media, culture, and communication sectors.
